You pay $0 for joint replacement and weight loss surgery at a 32BJ Center of Excellence (COE)

The 32BJ Health Fund has partnered with specialty hospitals in six states to give you and your eligible dependents access to high-quality joint replacement and weight loss (bariatric) surgery —at the lowest cost to you.

If you live within 50 miles of a COE, you must have the surgery performed by a COE doctor at a COE hospital. Otherwise, the surgery will not be covered, and you will have to pay 100% of the bill — which could cost you tens of thousands of dollars .

Here's how it works

If a doctor recommends joint replacement or weight loss surgery, tell them it's only covered with a COE doctor at a 32BJ Health Fund COE hospital.

Choose any COE doctor at any COE hospital for your surgery. For example, you can use a 32BJ Health Fund COE in Florida even if you live in Massachusetts or New York.

Pay your regular copays for appointments (including video appointments) with your doctor before your surgery.

Pay $0 for your hospital admission, your surgery and for specific care up to 30 days after you are discharged from the hospital.

For joint replacement surgery: You will pay $0 for physical therapy visits at a freestanding, in-network facility within the first 50 days after your hospital discharge. (A "freestanding facility" is a facility that is not affiliated with any hospital, including a COE hospital.) Your health plan covers a maximum of 30 physical therapy visits at an in-network facility every calendar year.
